Position Summary
The Department of Sociology at Austin Peay State University is currently seeking qualified applicants to join our Adjunct Instructor Pool. This pool will be used to fill part-time, temporary teaching positions on an as-needed basis for upcoming semesters.
Adjunct instructors will teach undergraduate courses in sociology, which may include-but are not limited to-Introduction to Sociology, Social Problems, Race and Ethnicity, Gender and Society, and Sociology of the Family. Courses may be offered in-person, online, or in hybrid formats.
Austin Peay State University is a four-year public, doctoral-level university, with six colleges and four Chairs of Excellence. The University has an enrollment of over 10,000 students and is located in Clarksville, Tennessee, a community of an estimated 150,287 people located approximately 40 miles northwest of Nashville, TN.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare and deliver course content in alignment with department standards
- Evaluate and grade student work in a timely manner
- Maintain regular communication with students and department leadership
- Uphold academic integrity and foster a respectful learning environment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Required Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Sociology or a closely related field from an accredited institution
- Demonstrated ability to teach effectively at the college level
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- A background search will be required of the successful applicant.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Sociology
- Familiarity with D2L
