Job Description
The Periodontics Department at the UMKC School of Dentistry is seeking a Certified Dental Assistant (UM Job Title: Senior Dental Assistant) to assist department faculty, periodontal residents, as well as dental students, preparing them to effectively work with a dental assistant.

Typical duties include:
* Greeting and seating patients as they arrive, answering clinic phone calls, returning after-hours messages, and scheduling patient appointments when the residency coordinator is not available.
* Preparing dental treatment areas through disinfection and sterilization.
* Preparing, sterilizing, disinfecting, and maintaining dental instruments, supplies and equipment.
* Preparing and assisting doctors in all facets of consults, nonsurgical, and surgical therapy; keeping the patient's mouth clean and dry during procedures; assisting with patients undergoing sedation.
* Taking patient records (i.e., including x-rays, pictures, and impressions); assisting with charting/updating patient electronic health record.
* Instructing patients on proper dental hygiene; checking with doctors for treatment instructions; answering patient questions or directing to appropriate resource, as needed.
* Maintaining the highest standards in regard to patient safety, privacy, and OHSA protocols.
* Keeping day to day supplies stocked at all times.
* Other duties as assigned.

Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM.
This is an in-person position supporting the UMKC Periodontics Clinic.
Minimum Qualifications
Full-Time/Part-Time
Full-Time, 40 hours per week (1.0 FTE), fully benefit-eligible from date of hire, staff position.
Salary
Up to $21.00 per hour, commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity.

- A high school diploma or equivalent and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired is necessary.
- Certifications as required by state/federal law or regulatory agencies is necessary.
- Previous experience assisting in an educational dental clinic.
