Position Highlights

The School of Sociology is recruiting a Postdoctoral Scholar with substantive interests in the sociology/economics/science of science (especially technology transfer and commercialization) and with a broad methodological toolkit that includes quantitative and computational skills. This is a year-to-year appointment, contingent upon funding and performance.

The Postdoctoral scholar will work on two interrelated projects: "How University IP Policies, Infrastructure, and Practices Influence Innovative Science and Technology," and "A Roadmap to Fulfilling the Economic Potential of Technology Transfer in the Life Sciences and Biomedicine in Arizona." The latter project entails a collaboration with teams at the other two universities in Arizona: Arizona State University and Northern Arizona University. Graduate research assistants also work on the project, and the Postdoctoral Scholar will help advise them and guide their work. This work is supported by grants from the Arizona Board of Regents through the Technology and Research Initiative Fund.

The Postdoctoral Scholar will be advised primarily by Drs. Erin Leahey and Jane Zavisca and housed in the School of Sociology, where there is a vibrant community of sociologists. The overarching goal of these projects is to collect and analyze data at multiple levels (paper, invention, patent, individual, academic field, university, firm, region) to understand the drivers of university innovation and impact in the context of technology transfer.

Opportunities for training, professional development, and conference attendance will be provided, and the postdoctoral research fellow will be encouraged to lead research components leading to scholarly publications.

Outstanding UA benefits include health, dental, vision, and life insurance; paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays; UA/ASU/NAU tuition reduction for the employee and qualified family members; access to UA recreation and cultural activities; and more!
