Position Summary

The University of New Mexico (UNM) and the Division of Student Affairs seek an experienced, strategic, motivated, organized, and culturally responsive professional to join a team of passionate and student-centered leaders as the Director of Career Services.

The Office of Career Services assists all students, faculty, staff, alumni, and employers in the development of career education, career identification, career decision-making, and the pursuit of employment opportunities.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Student Resources, the director will oversee all aspects of the Office of Career Services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Supervision: Oversee the management and supervision of staff within the department. Provide leadership, guidance, and support to team.
  • Budget Management: Oversee and manage the department's budget to ensure effective use of resources.
  • Strategic and Administrative Directions: Handle day-to-day administration of the office, ensuring smooth operations. Develop short and long-term goals and programs. Provide budget projections and strategic planning for future growth and success.
  • Program Development and Delivery: Plan, organize, and implement career programs and services designed to help students and clients prepare for internships and employment opportunities.
  • Building Partnerships: Cultivate and maintain strong partnerships with university colleges/schools, departments, community partners, and employers at the state, national, and global levels to create valuable growth opportunities.
  • Marketing and Promotion: Develop strategies to market Career Services and its services and programs to ensure students and employer are aware of available resources and opportunities.

The Division of Student Affairs is comprised of student-centered units and services that are dedicated to advancing the quality, cohesiveness, and cultural relevancy of the student experience the Albuquerque campus and beyond.

Conditions of Employment

  • Employees in this job title are subject to the terms and conditions of an employment contract. Employment contracts are typically subject to review and renewal on an annual basis.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in Counseling or an equivalent field; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Counseling Licensure (LPCC) and the ability to obtain licensure in New Mexico
  • Career counseling experience, specifically working with multicultural and diverse populations
  • Familiarity with career services and student development in higher education.
  • Proven experience in providing leadership, supervision, management, and strategic direction, including budgeting and resource management, to ensure the effective delivery of services.
  • Strong organizational, communication and marketing skills.
  • Experience working and understanding the needs of global recruiters/employers and economic trends.
  • Knowledge of internship and employment trends, including global and national opportunities for students.

Pay: Monthly: $6,744.40 - $9,654.67 depending on education and experience
