Nature of Work
The Dean of the School of Professional Studies and Applied Science is a 12-month administrative position that reports to the Vice President of Academic Affairs (VPAA). The Dean is responsible for the oversight of both undergraduate and graduate programs. The Dean will be responsible for the strategic and academic direction of the school. The Dean will work with department chairs, faculty, and staff to achieve the goals of the school and college through shared governance and a collaborative and consultative approach.

Academic Leadership:
Communicates, collaborates, and builds consensus effectively and appropriately with all members of the campus community.
Plan, implement, and evaluate initiatives to ensure success, relevancy, and sustainability of the school and college.
Develop, implement, and evaluate academic programs that align with the institution's mission and strategic goals.
Ensure high standards of academic quality and integrity.
Promote innovative teaching methods and curricula relevant to professional and applied sciences.
Lead and coordinate curriculum development, curricular revisions, curricular assessment, and program effectiveness aligned with current best practices and consistent with the mission, vision, and goals of the institution.
Coordinates and implements appropriate technology, pedagogy, modes of delivery, and student learning paths to advance degree completion and retention in conjunction with the other deans, the Teaching, Learning, Professional Education Center, and Information Technology.
Ensure compliance with all accreditation and governing bodies.
Provide an annual report outlining the established annual goals and progress made toward the same.
Serves on committees and task forces as assigned.
Rotates chair duties with the other dean's on assigned committees.
Budget and Resource Management:
Prepare and manage the budget for the school, ensuring effective allocation of resources.
Seek external funding and partnerships to support program initiatives.
Community and Industry Relations:
Build and maintain partnerships with local businesses, industries, and community organizations.
Develop mutually beneficial connections with CSC alumni.
Develop, implement, and evaluate the use of advisory boards to help evaluate and improve current curriculum and help inform future degree offerings.
Represent the School at local, regional, national, and international events.
Culture
Foster a culture of positivity, collaboration, communication, innovation, continuous improvement, and appreciation.
Foster a culture and commitment to community engagement activities.
Foster a culture of leadership, strategy, student centeredness, data informed, workforce effectiveness, operational evaluation, geared toward results and continuous quality improvement.
Faculty
Support and promote meaningful faculty engagement related to service and scholarly activities.
Encourage faculty involvement and interaction within the school through open discussion.
Acknowledge and support the primary responsibilities of faculty pertaining to teaching, service, and scholarship.
Encourage, promote, and practice effective and meaningful shared governance.
Promote excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.
Make appropriate recommendations to the VPAA on appointments, reappointments, promotions, leaves of absence, dismissals, suspensions, and tenure.
Interdepartmental Collaboration
Facilitate effective communication and collaboration across departments to improve project outcomes and align goals across the college.
Lead and participate in cross functional teams to drive strategic initiatives, ensuring that all departments' perspectives and expertise are considered.
Actively identify and resolve any interdepartmental conflicts or challenges, promoting a positive work environment and fostering a culture of teamwork.
Collaborate with various departments to evaluate existing processes, identify areas for improvement, and implement solutions that enhance overall efficiency and productivity.
Establish regular feedback loops between departments to share insights, best practices, and improvements, supporting continuous growth and alignment with school and college objectives.
Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across departments to foster collaboration and ensure alignment with strategic objectives.
Policy
Provide leadership in formulating, executing, and evaluating policies at the program, school, and college level.
Ensure policies and procedures are aligned with the mission, vision, and goals of the institution.
Strategic Planning:
Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to develop annual action plans (with key performance indicators), and long-term planning aligned with the strategic plan and annual action plans of the college and department of academic affairs.
Stay informed of trends in higher education and workforce development to adapt programs accordingly.
Student Engagement:
Enhance student recruitment, retention, and success initiatives.
Promote an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
Develop, implement, and evaluate student success initiatives.
Promote a culture of applied and experiential learning.
Supervision:
Recruit, mentor, and evaluate faculty and staff members consistent with the mission, values, and goals of the college.
Develop, implement, and continually evaluate professional development opportunities and activities for faculty and staff.
Ensure regular, timely, and meaningful communication about performance and expectations, written and in person, with faculty and staff.
Develop a culture of regular feedback and two-way conversations about strengths and opportunities for improvement.
Provide support to faculty and staff consistent with a continuous quality improvement culture.
Secondary Duties
May teach up to three credit hours per semester, as assigned by the VPAA.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Earned Doctorate from an accredited school
Five years experience in higher education teaching and/or administrative experience
Demonstrated record of teaching, scholarship or creative activities, and service in higher education
Demonstrated experience with accreditation and assessment
Demonstrated experience with curriculum development and design
Preferred Qualifications
At least three years supervisory experience
Terminal Degree in related field
