Job Summary

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the UWG Foundations reports directly to the Vice President of University Advancement and provides day-to-day management and strategic oversight of the financial and administrative operations of UWG's institutionally affiliated foundations. The CFO leads a team of professionals, working collaboratively with the UWG Foundations CEO/Vice President for University Advancement, to help build the wealth of these organizations, in accordance with best practice.

1. - Works with the VPUA/CEO of the UWG Foundations to interpret University and Foundation policies and procedures to University and Foundation staff, volunteers, and supporters of the University. Develops, implements, and provides direction on Foundation projects, and establishes necessary policies and procedures for the foundations.

2. - Reviews new endowment and scholarship agreements, legal documents and contracts. Provides financial information to appropriate campus partners including annual scholarship allocations, program support, and expenditures. Oversees management of the Foundation scholarship awards and monitors usage of funds, working collaboratively with UWG's Scholarship Office.

3. - Manages critical systems necessary for the accounting and reporting of contributions to each of the Foundations as well as ensure proper training and service to Development, Alumni and Constituent Engagement, Athletics, and other campus partners. Manages the Foundation staff including, but not limited to, staff development and performance, departmental budgeting and reporting, serving as a senior staff representative, and divisional representative to University committees, as applicable.

4. - Directs timely and accurate preparation of GAAP financial statements, as well as serves as chief audit liaison. Schedules and coordinates work with independent auditors for annual financial statements. Reviews all required audit work papers and information for tax return. Prepares annual financial statements for annual audit and IRS Form 990. Working with the VPUA/Executive Director of the UWG Foundations, the CFO is responsible for overseeing the management of all assets of a multi-million dollar corporation dedicated to the preservation of endowment and to sustaining a level of support for University programs now and for future generations of students. Oversees investment portfolio and works in concert with the investment and finance committees and investment manager to ensure effective management of the portfolio. Leads and staffs committees of the Foundation's governing boards, including audit, investment and finance, real estate; prepares materials in a timely fashion for and attends all Board and Committee meetings.

5. - Approves budgetary and agency account expenditures. Supervises the preparation and oversight of Foundation budgets, subject to the approval of the VPUA. Coordinates and communicates with University officials on all financial, PPV, and other related matters. Provides continuing evaluation of Foundation services and works with the VPUA/Executive Director of the Foundation to direct planning, strategies, and evaluation procedures of Foundation operations. Responsible for annual State reports and registrations. Serves as a key divisional advisor on all matters related to infrastructure planning and facilities as it relates to PPV properties.

KNOWLEDGE

A sound knowledge about finance planning, tax reforms and strategy planning along with business administration. Understanding and knowledge of tax issues as they relate to Not-For-Profit Organizations. Command of and competence in various software programs utilized by the Foundation. Brilliant strategist.

SKILLS

Excellent communication and leadership skills. Good negotiation abilities; Excellent interpersonal, public relations, oratory and presentation skills. Excellent time management skills Exceptional management capabilities Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and their application. Understanding of Not-For-Profit Organizations and how to account for transactions specific of these types of entities. 

Physical Requirements Office Environment - Work normally performed in a typical interior work environment.

Educational Requirements

Bachelors Degree

Other Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. 8-10 years of progressive management experience in a senior level financial role, preferably from a university foundation or higher education institution. Relevant experience in a nonprofit or other org which is a best-in-class setting may also be considered.

Masters Degree

Preferred Experience

Certified Public Accountant; or a Master's degree in Accounting and finance and six years of directly related professional experience.
