Operates X-ray equipment and collects and processes laboratory specimens according to established procedures. Checks in patients and provides X-ray or laboratory services.
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Equipment Operation. Operates X-ray equipment to make radiographs of designated portions of the body and to provide X-ray therapy to patients. Adjusts equipment to correct setting for each examination and determines proper voltage, current and desired exposure time for each radiograph.
- Patient Preparation for X-Rays. Greets, verifies identification, and prepares patients for procedures. Positions and instructs patients. Arranges, attaches, or adjusts immobilization and supportive devices to obtain precise position, to prevent movement, and to lessen discomfort. Follows proper safety protocol for radiation exposure according to established procedures. Adjusts lead shield to protect unaffected parts of the body from exposure to X-rays.
- Patient Preparation for Laboratory tests. Instructs patients in proper collection methods according to established procedures. Collects and processes specimens according to established procedures.
- File Maintenance. Utilizes Electronic Medical Records System (Medicat), enters and verifies patient information in Radiology Manager and Laboratory Manager for orders and results. Maintains accurate records in eRad (PACS, Picture Archiving Computer System). Records results/reports according to established procedures.
- Quality Assurance. Performs quality improvement projects. Assists in maintaining certification and updates procedures for radiology.
- Clinic Team Member. Assists providers with X-ray image evaluations. Refers patients for medical advice or health information to appropriate person/department.
- Facilities Maintenance. Cleans radiology and patient changing/collection rooms and maintains X-ray and Laboratory supplies. Properly disposes of contaminated supplies.
- Supervision: May serve as lead employee. Receives limited radiology supervision and general laboratory supervision; determines action to be taken in radiology in handling all but unusual cases. May train others in similar position as well as provide guidance/answers for other members of the Health Care Team regarding radiology testing/results.
- Other Duties: Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
Job Requirements

Education: Associate's Degree or certification in a diagnostic radiologic technology program
- 6 months clinical experience in Radiology.
Skills:
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing as required to exchange information
- Ability to read and understand written instructions and materials
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to give instructions to patients who may be nervous
- Ability to work well with others
- Detail oriented
- Organizational skills and ability to handle stress under time constraints
- Ability to perform basic math functions
Advertised Physical Requirements:
- Regular exposure to disagreeable conditions, odors, and loud noises
- Regular standing, bending, lifting above shoulders, and carrying at least 30 pounds
- Understanding of radiation protection/shielding devices
- Knowledge of ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) to limit exposure to the patient and staff
- Willingness to wear and maintain uniforms
Certifications/ Licenses:
- Radiologic Technologist certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained within 90 days of hire or certification from an equivalent radiology registry or licensing agency.
Departmental Preferences:
- 12-24 months experience in Health/Medical setting
- CPR certified
Training:
- On the job training available for providing laboratory services.
